Dragon Age 4 is in pre-production and we’ve written all the information that we managed to find online, in this article. We will keep it updated through the next months. This article will be covering everything regarding Dragon Age 4 until its release date.

Characters

Dragon Age, as a franchise, tends to reuse characters and companions in its titles. For example Varric Tethras who appears in both Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition. However, BioWare uses a different hero in each game, though the Grey Warden and Hawke do have the ability to cameo in Dragon Age: Inquisition. I find it highly likely to meet a character from an older Dragon Age in the upcoming release, but not as the main protagonist.

The only character that is confirmed to appear in Dragon Age 4 is the Dread Wolf. Solas’s voice is heard in the first teaser trailer for the game and his relationship to the greater struggles of Thedas means he’s not going anywhere any time soon. Along with Solas, Flemeth and Fenris are expected to return as well. A little side note here, Dark Horse recently announced another Dragon Age comic featuring Fenris called Blue Wraith. Let’s hope that this comic is not just his retirement story.

If you played the Dragon Age Inquisition’s DLC, you will also remember that Dorian Pavus was seen returning to his homeland. This could mean that Dorian will return in Dragon Age 4 as one of the main story characters. Finally there is one character that appears in all Dragon Age games and this is no other from King Alistair. I find the probability of the King returning to the new title “around” 99 percent.

Release Date

There is no confirmed release date for Dragon age 4 yet. If you take into consideration that the game is still in pre-production, the release date is probably set for 2022 .In BioWare’s September Update on its blog, general manager Casey Hudson, amidst news about Anthem’s future, says “One of our projects has a large and growing team in Edmonton working through pre-production, and based on the progress I’m seeing, I can confirm that indeed the Dread Wolf rises.” In addition, CFO Blake Jorgensen stated that the release date “probably comes after fiscal 2022” meaning after the April of 2020.

Trailers

We currently have just a teaser trailer and of course the announcement one. We will add more as soon as we find them.

The Setting

Dragon Age 4 will probably take place in Tevinter. Keep in mind that Dragon Age Inquisition’s last DLC shows the Inquisitor stabbing Tevinter with a small dagger. Back in April 2019, Kotaku published a report on the history (and future) of Dragon Age 4’s development. Among other details, it found that the original incarnation of the next game, codenamed Joplin at the time, was set in Tevinter. “You’d play as a group of spies in Tevinter Imperium,” the report says. There are also rumours of some Dragon Age writer working on a collection of short stories with the name of Tevinter Nights.

Genre

The developers haven’t given much information about the genre of the new title, but it’s certain that Dragon Age 4 will be an RPG. Judging from the last three Dragon Ages, it will follow their quest and leveling structure. The good news are that the developers talked in the past about building systemic narrative mechanics, allowing the player to perform actions like persuading or extorting guards without the writers having to hand-craft every scene. The goal was to focus as much as possible on choice and consequence, with smaller areas and fewer fetch quests than Dragon Age: Inquisition.”

Multiplayer

Dragon Age 4 will feature multiplayer. According to the developers, “Dragon Age 4 critical path, or main story, would be designed for single-player and that goal of the multiplayer elements would be to keep people engaged so that they would actually stick with post-launch content.” Let’s just hope they don’t mess up the multiplayer and most importantly, that they don’t make a sketchy single player mode.

Screenshots / Images

Unfortunately, the only images that we managed to find are these three in the article. We hope that BioWare will release more artwork of their upcoming release. Stay tuned!

Be sure to check all the new games announced by Sony and some stunning screenshots from the Demons Souls Remake. This month, we are  also doing our first site giveaway with Witcher 3, Green Hell and Fight of Animals (for Steam).
