[UPDATE] After informing fans that a DLC seems highly unlikely, Naughty Dog’s vice-president, Neil Druckmann, made a tweet stating the Last of Us 2 Multiplayer will be worth the wait.
Scroll down for the update.
[Original Post – 27/6/2020] Unfortunately, speaking to to Kinda Funny, creative director of The Last of Us Part 2, Neil Druckmann, said that Naughty Dog had “no plans for DLC” right now.
This is really strange if you take into consideration the huge success that The Last of Us Part 2 had as a follow up to the original title. But perhaps the company will focus on a different game because last September the studio announced that The Last of Us: Part 2 would launch without a new Factions multiplayer mode as work on one had grown “beyond an additional mode that could be included with our enormous single-player campaign”. According to some rumours, The Last of Us 2 multiplayer will arrive as a separate release or DLC in the future.
“You will eventually experience the fruits of our team’s online ambition,” Naughty Dog said at the time, “but not as part of The Last of Us 2. When, where it will be realised and if it will be a The Last of Us 2 DLC is still to be determined. But rest assured, we are as big a fan of Factions as the rest of our community and are excited to share more when it’s ready.” During his interview this week, when Neil Druckmann was asked about the multiplayer feature of the title he did not gave an answer. “I remember when we used to make multiplayer games,” he joked, before miming a mouth-zipping action.
[UPDATE 1 – 27/9/2020] According to Naughty Dog’s vice-president, Neil Druckmann, the Last of Us 2 Multiplayer will be worth the wait.
Many fans of the franchise expected that in yesterday’s event, Naughty Dog would announce The Last of Us Multiplayer game. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and the company revealed instead some new cosplay guides, a free PS4 theme, GIFs, contests and much more. However, the vice president of Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, made a tweet informing fans that the multiplayer feature of the game is coming soon and it will be worth the wait.
Thank you to all the wonderful fans for an incredible #TheLastofUsDay ! Your positivity and love is incredibly inspiring. Oh… and about that other thing… be patient. It’ll be worth it. ❤️

“Thank you to all the wonderful fans for an incredible #TheLastofUsDay! Your positivity and love is incredibly inspiring. Oh… and about that other thing… be patient. It’ll be worth it.” Back in September 2019, the developer confirmed the multiplayer mode had grown beyond “an additional mode that could be included with our enormous single player campaign.” No further details were given about the multiplayer, but we will update the article as soon as we have more information.
[UPDATE 2 – 20/10/2020] The Last of Us Part 2 actor’s return ignited rumors about an Abby’s DLC.
The Last of Us Part 2 actor, Derek Philips, tweeted an image of him returning to work. Wearing full motion capture gear, Derek’s simple statemenet “Back to work!!!” ignited all kind of rumors in the community about a mystery DLC. Derek played the role of the surgeon/Abby’s father in Naughty Dog’s latest release, leading to the assumption that the company is probably preparing for an Abby DLC.

Unfortunately, as you can see from the Original Post above, Naughty Dog has stated in the past that there are no plans for a DLC, so take these rumors with a pinch of salt. The fun fact is that Abby is one of the most hated characters in the sequel, so many Last of Us fans replied to this tweet by wishing that an Abby DLC will not happen. We will update the article as soon as we have more information about Derek’s work.
