[Original Post – 31/5/2020] Like every year, this year’s Call of Duty game has probably leaked before its official announcement. It’s name is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Activision Blizzard has confirmed the arrival of a new title for the franchise, but they never gave us more information regarding this topic. However, according to a tweet that has since been corroborated by Eurogamer, this year’s game will be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. This will be the fifth game of the Black Ops series. Call of Duty: Black Ops sub-franchise began in the Vietnam War in the early 1960s and it was a really huge success for the company. As the name of the new title suggests, Treyarch’s Black Ops series is returning to its roots with a historical setting.

The Black Ops Cold War name first appeared on Twitter by leaker Okami13, and Eurogamer has since reported it’s heard the same news from its sources. We can also see some hints about Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in Call of Duty: Warzone. For example there is a bug where you can find a Cold War spyplane if you stick to some walls.

The setting is not a huge surprise, then, but it’s a more interesting reveal than what we’re used to. Last year, the company released anamazing battle royale, Call of Duty: Warzone, and a reboot of the 2007 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Activision is doing a good job and we hope that this new release will be an amazing game that will live up to our expectations.

[UPDATE 1 – 9/8/2020] A strange message in Warzone seems to be hinting at the next Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War.

In the video below you can see a player describing a strange Warzone event as “very peculiar”. Thanks to Eurogamer for spotting it, players at Call of Duty: Warzone have begun seeing a random brief message that appears in the middle of the matches. The message reads “KNOW YOUR HISTORY” and is accompanied by a Russian text. If you translate the text you will get the “doomed to repeat it” message. All members of a group see the message simultaneously and we can’t be sure if its a tease about the upcoming Call of Duty title or just a random fun feature.

[UPDATE 2 – 24/8/2020] A new leak (via pre-orders) gave us some bonus information about what to expect in the upcoming game of the franchise.

Some of the pre-order bonuses of the game have appeared online and was shared by COD Tracker. These details confirm the existance of a Beta test that will be announced soon by the company, but will not be available with the pre-order. Pre-ordering the title will only give you give the players Early Access. It is really strange that a Beta period will happen, considering how close the game is to its release. The leak also mentions the Battle Pass system that will return to Black Ops and is similar to Modern’s Warfare.

In addition, a confirmed example of a pre-order bonus is the character Sergeant Frank Woods. Frank will also be available to use in Warzone and his voice was datamined in Warzone one month before. Two DLCs will also be part of the pre-order bonus or a more expensive collector’s edition. The names of these packs are Confrontation Weapons Pack & Land, Sea and Air Pack. We don’t know yet what these DLCs will contain or how much bonus money you need to spend in order to get your hands on them.

Infinity Ward’s narrative director Taylor Kurosaki has suggested that Warzone will be a constant for Call of Duty from now own, even as other games in the series follow it, saying, “Call of Duty is a genre in itself, there are different branches in the Call of Duty tree, but they’re all connected in some ways. Warzone will be the through line that connects all of the different various sub-franchises of Call of Duty.”

[UPDATE 3 – 31/8/2020] The beta date for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been leaked.

There has been another Black Ops Cold War leak, this time about the game’s Beta release date. The Modern Warfare store page posted, by mistake, that in October 8 the Black Ops Cold War Beta will launch for PS4. The Beta will first go live on PlayStation, followed by PC and Xbox One. We present you the exact schedule below:

PS4 Pre-Order Beta: October 8-9

PS4 Open Beta: October 10-12

PC/Xbox One Pre-Order Beta: October 15-16

Full Open Beta: October 17-18

This will probably be an only two or three weekend Beta, because the game will officialy full-launch on November. In case that you are interested there has been some leaks about  the multiplayer feature and the campaign details.

[UPDATE 4 – 2/9/2020] Activision provided more details on Frank Woods and his role in the story of Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War.

If you are a Call of Duty fan, prepare to see many familiar characters return to Cold War, including Frank Woods and Alex Mason. Yesterday, the developers begun to share with us some new lore details about the characters of the game and the role that they will play in the story. During the events of Black Ops Cold War, Frank Woods is in Turkey (Trabzon) on January 13, 1981. There, he learns about a new evil threat that is connected to a secret Soviet operative. “Woods learns about a legendary Soviet operative whose existence has been questioned even within the deepest ranks of the CIA. Within a matter of weeks, he joins a newly assembled team tasked with tracking down this dangerous figure at any cost, and the next chapter of his story begins,” reads a line from the story description.

The legendary Soviet operative is probably a reference to Perseus who is also mentioned in the first trailer of C Cold War where Ronald Reagan gives the command to go after him. The next profile that we will get will be about Jason Hudson according to the developers. A small note here, while Black Ops Cold War will feature many familiar characters, Activision hired new actors to voice them. Specifically James C. Burns, who voiced Woods in the earlier Black Ops games, recently spoke out to express his disappointment that his role had been recast. Alex Mason’s old voice actor, Sam Worthington, was also replaced.

[UPDATE 5 – 6/9/2020] Call of Duty’s official account made a tweet stating that the the worldwide multiplayer reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will take place on Wednesday, September 9 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET.

The livestream will probably happen on the official Call of Duty Twitch and YouTube channels. We don’t have any more details about Call of Duty Cold War multiplayer yet, but it will be connected to the battle royale of the series, Warzone. We will update the article with a link, as soon as the stream goes live this Wednesday. A small teaser video was also uploaded on Twitter, showing some players shooting in a cavern somewhere in the dessert and driving buggies while avoiding a rain of helicopters.

[UPDATE 6 – 7/9/2020] More Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War details have surfaced online thanks to its ESRB rating.

First spotted by ComicBook, the official ESRB rating for the upcoming Call of Duty title has been revealed. “Frenetic combat, realistic gunfire, blood-splatter effects, and cried of pain.” the description reads. “In addition to ranged combat, players have the ability to stab or pistol-whip enemies close-up, or use them as human shields. Some weapons cause characters to explode into bloody chunks of flesh. A zombie mode also depicts decapitation and dismemberment, as players use bladed weapons and guns to kill hordes of undead soldiers/creatures.” the rating continues.

But that’s not all. The game also involves sexual content because “flyers with the words ‘peep show’ and ‘XXX’ can be seen alongside pictures of women in lingerie; a red-light-district storefront is depicted with a neon sign that reads ‘XXX.’” It looks like that with all this violence, drugs, blood and sex, Cold War will mainly have a mature audience.

[UPDATE 7 – 17/9/2020] You can now take a look at the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign with this new trailer.

During today’s PS5 Showcase, Activision released a new trailer for the upcoming Black Ops Cold War. The video is titled Nowhere Left to Run and it shows a small part of the first level of the campaign. The protagonist in this specific quest is the CIA agent Alex Mason (you probably remember him from previous games), who arrives in Trabzon along with Farnk Woods and Russell Adler. Your goal is to infiltrate an airport and eliminate a high profile target named Arash. We have embeded the video below, in case you missed it.
