The director of Naughty Dog’s survival horror title, Neil Druckmann, confirmed that the story outline for The Last of Us: Part 3 is complete.
According to Neil, him and Halley Gross have finally completed writing down the plot for third title of the franchise. When asked about Ellie’s and Abby’s futures, Druckmann refused to reveal more about the story and stated that Naughty Dog will probably proceed with the development of The Last of Us Part 3. Unfortunately, games like this, take a lot of effort and time in order to complete, so don’t expect a part III anytime soon. “These games take so much to make. I’ve been thinking about it for seven years, between when the last game came out and when this came out. You want to make sure you’re jazzed by the idea that you have, it feels like it’s challenging.”
Even if The Last of Us 3 is under development, when will it release?
We remind you that The Last of Us Part II was released 7 years after the launch of the original game. However, the franchise now has two titles instead of one, making the development of the next sequel easier. “We’ve now had two games that I feel speak to something universal as well as telling a very personal story for these characters. With one game, there’s no pattern of what a franchise is. With two games, now there’s starting to be a pattern – now I feel like there are some structural and thematic themes you’d have to stick to if you’re making a third game.” Neil continues.
Despite the delays, The Last of Us Part 3 is very likely to happen, especially after the countless GOTY awards that his predecessor achieved.
